Oscar winner 'The Cove' to become the basis of a new TV series

Fans of "The Cove," the environmentally themed film that won the best documentary Oscar last night, will be happy to know there's more where that came from.

A new television series about the controversial dolphin trade in Japan, tentatively titled "Dolphin Warriors," has been greenlit by Animal Planet.

The series picks up where the movie leaves off and, like the film, stars animal activist Ric O'Barry. Two episodes of the series -- which is being executive produced by O'Barry's son, Lincoln -- have already been completed, although a premiere date has yet to be announced, Ric O'Barry said.

Animal Planet says the series may premiere in the fall, after "The Cove" debuts on the channel this summer.

"The Cove" tells the story of an annual rite in Taiji, Japan, where fisherman sell dolphins into captivity or kill them for meat. As depicted in the film, the practice is cruel and the dolphin meat contains risky levels of mercury.

Lindsay Lohan Suing E-Trade for Milkaholic "Parody"

    Lindsay Lohan is no milkaholic.

And that's likely why the 23-year-old star is suing financial company E-Trade for $100 million for using her name in its latest commercial about a boyfriend-stealing "milkaholic" baby.

In the ad, which debuted during this year's Super Bowl in February, a baby boy apologizes to his girlfriend for not calling her the night before.

"And that milkaholic Lindsay wasn't over?" the baby girl asks before another baby girl pops into the screen saying, "Milk-a-whaaat?" (Watch the video here.)

Lohan filed the lawsuit Monday, which claims the ad violated the star's rights under New York state civil-rights law.

Ubisoft DRM Servers Under Attack, PC Players Unable To Access Games

Ubisoft has taken a lot of (justifiable) heat for its decision to introduce DRM protection for their PC titles that requires a constant internet connection in order to play the games it's designed to protect. Well, the situation didn't get any help over the weekend when Ubisoft’s servers were hacked, preventing a number of Assassin’s Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 players from accessing their games.

Ubisoft responded via Twitter shortly after complaints started rolling in saying that "95% of players were not affected, but a small group of players attempting to open a game session did receive denial of service errors.”

A few hours later, Ubisoft posted another update, explaining, “We're happy to say ACII & SH5 are withstanding the efforts to crack them. We see the rumors but still confirm no valid cracked versions exist.”

Will Cameron's 'Avatar' give Oscar ratings a pop?

Whether he walks away with any or all of the nine Oscars that "Avatar" is nominated for, James Cameron may still go home the hero of this year's awards.

His 3D sci-fi epic has been a boon for the box office this year and could do the same for Oscar ratings, industry watchers say.
"Avatar," which has raked in more than $2.5 billion in ticket sales worldwide according to boxofficemojo.com, is a contender for several honors, including the coveted best picture and best director awards.

The presence of the Na'vi-inspired blockbuster, which is Hollywood's most successful movie ever, could be just what the Oscars need.
The last time audience figures for the Oscars registered a big boost was in 1998, when another Cameron blockbuster, "Titanic," won best picture.

Microsoft: Sexual orientation now allowed on Xbox Live

Microsoft has updated its rather extensive Xbox Live "Code of Conduct" to allow the inclusion of race, nationality, religion and sexual orientation in Gamertags and profiles.

"Under our previous policy, some of these expressions of self-identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs," explained Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten.

"However we have since heard feedback from our customers that while the spirit of this approach was genuine, it inadvertently excluded a part of our Xbox Live community. This update also comes hand-in-hand with increased stringency and enforcement to prevent the misuse of these terms."

Meanwhile, Destructoid's Jim Sterling noted that gamers will be permitted to use a number of terms - including Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Straight - to denote their sexuality.

Blur brings form of multiplayer to Xbox Live silver members

Blur, Activision’s upcoming racer, is touting the fact that it will be the first game to offer Xbox Live silver members – i.e. non-paying members – the chance to play online multiplayer.

It’s also claiming to be the first game which will allow PS3 and Xbox owners to play against each other, but the deal isn’t quite what it appears to be at first glance.

In fact, Blur integrates Twitter functionality, so players on either console, across the world, can challenge each other via the social network at any time.

But this function merely posts a time to beat on a course over to your opponent, and you don’t actually get to race against each other in real-time. That true multiplayer experience won’t be cross-platform, and will be the preserve of Live gold members, as ever.

Infinity Ward Founders Suing Activision Over Unpaid Royalties

Jason West and Vince Zampella, the men at the centre of this week's drama at Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward, have filed suit against Activision over claims they are owed "substantial royalty payments".

"Activision has refused to honor the terms of its agreements and is intentionally flouting the fundamental public policy of this State (California) that employers must pay their employees what they have rightfully earned," said the pair's attorney, Robert Schwartz, of law firm O'Melveny & Myers. "Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public, last month Activision hired lawyers to conduct a pretextual 'investigation' into unstated and unsubstantiated charges of 'insubordination' and 'breach of fiduciary duty,' which then became the grounds for their termination on Monday, March 1st."

West and Zampella are coming out swinging. "We were shocked by Activision's decision to terminate our contract," Jason West says. "We poured our heart and soul into that company, building not only a world class development studio, but assembling a team we've been proud to work with for nearly a decade. We think the work we've done speaks for itself."
